These straw beach bags are wonderfully hand crafted. First, the straw is sliced into strings, which are dried in the sun. If necessary the dried straw strings are then dyed into fabulous colours, otherwise they will stay in the original 'sand' colour.
The dyeing process is done on an open wood fire in a big bowl, the dye powder is added to the water with the strings to infuse the colour. After this the straw strings are again dried in the sun. The sun is a very important factor in the whole process, as the strings need to dry in the open air. The weaving is an ancient art used by women artisans and we are happy that it is this technique which is still used for every straw bag today.
All the products are hand made by local women artisans in Bali and made from natural straw. To make 1 bag takes about 2-3 days as the women also work on the rice fields and help with harvesting. Please note that the pompoms may vary slightly in design
